A Magazine For Personal Empowerment
We publish articles which offer our readers information and inspiration to assist them in making choices for creating their best life. Knowing that as we expand into all we can be as individuals we can interact within our communities and be a part of that change we want to see in the world. It is requested that each article include a sample concept, method, exercise or practical application tool which gives the reader the opportunity to choose books, products and tools they find most appropriate and relevant to personal desires and needs.
[A] rticles which create a ‘need’, describe a ‘negative’ or focus on a ‘problem/challenge’ must offer something within the article that can be used to begin fulfilling the need or shifting the negative into a positive.
Book and Product Reviews:
[W] e publish book EXCERPTS. This gives readers the opportunity to experience and sample a technique for personal development. A ‘taste’ of the text allows personal intimacy with the book or product, inviting the reader to decide the relevance for themselves and choose to explore further.
Press Releases and Event Listings:
Press releases and event listings can be advertised in the Classified advertising and Calendar listings for just $20 for 30 words – with discounts for non-profit organizations. Press releases formatted as articles are accepted as paid advertising – with the cost set at 1/2 the display ad rate.
Draw the Reader In
Please write your article as if you are talking to the reader. Draw them into your world. This is your opportunity to share as if you were working directly with them.
Our Readers
Articles are chosen to appeal to the general public AND readers with furthering their experience AND continuing to increase their understanding of the topics featured in Voice of Choices. With this in mind, it is important that each article assume the reader may be encountering the subject for the first time. Developing the content as the article continues and offering an example, tool or technique the reader can use allows them to experience the subject matter personally.
[W] e look specifically for articles which speak to the heart of issues anyone may face in their daily life; articles which discuss the opportunity for new choices within common situations. The best teachers throughout history have always taught by example. Whether inspirationally speaking, or strictly informational, authors are encouraged to include some type of reference to personal experience and actual/practical application.
[D] ue to the large volume of submissions received, we cannot guarantee placement in a specific issue. Articles which fit the guidelines and are accompanied by display advertising receive priority for placement.
Word.doc Format
All articles are to be submitted in a word.doc (please save word.docx articles in the word.doc format) with author’s name, email and phone number included in the word document. If you are not the author also include your contact information.
Length of Articles
Voice of Choices accepts articles of varying lengths. Depending on the content of the piece, and quality of writing, articles of 600 words to 900 words may be submitted. Longer articles may be accepted depending on space available.
Tag Line
Include a 60-80 word paragraph with your website, contact information, background and product information. This is your opportunity to ‘pitch’ your product or event.
Editing
[W] e edit for grammar and punctuation, clarity and in some cases space. If your article needs further editing we will return it to you with suggestions for editing it yourself. We reserve the right to edit all articles to the extent detailed above. In addition, it is important that each article carry a title which both conveys information about the article and invites the attention of prospective readers. We reserve the right to re-title your article.
Voice of Choices is Not a Trade Journal
Articles intended to ‘pitch’ products, books or events are considered advertising and are published on a paid basis. Every product, book and/or event was created to fulfill a ‘need’ or ‘desire’. Articles which speak to the foundational subject and include a tool the reader can experiment with are welcome.
[V] oice of Choices accepts original material which has not been published within our distribution areas and is not being submitted to other local publications. Research papers or outlines featuring the views of others read as impersonal reports of facts and are not accepted. References to hard ‘facts’ are appropriate AND much of the content featured in Voice of Choices covers interpretation and application of ‘facts’ and the ways in which those applications can benefit the individual.
[W] e DO NOT publish materials which take personal opinion to the level of judgment, attack or demeaning the opinions or choices of others – be they individuals, groups, organizations, or belief systems. Comparisons between diverse choices are acceptable – as long as they stay within a positive and informative format.
